How to Fix Packet Loss
Fix packet loss by isolating the hop that drops traffic: local Wi‑Fi, the LAN, or the ISP path. A browser HTTP timeout is not the same as ICMP loss, but failed probes still mean you should check stability.
Confirm it is not Wi‑Fi retries
Move to Ethernet. If loss disappears, repair the radio: channel, width, distance, and interfering APs.
Rule out the device
Bad cables, overloaded VPN, and failing NICs also drop traffic. Try another device.
Escalate with evidence
ISPs need wired tests at several hours. Game overlays that show “loss” may be measuring a specific UDP path, not your whole WAN.
Frequently asked questions
Can this website send ICMP pings?
No. Browsers are not allowed to send arbitrary ICMP. We can time HTTP probes only.
Does 0% in a game mean the WAN is perfect?
No. That overlay is one server path.
