What Is a Good Ping?
For a nearby node, under 20 ms is excellent and under 50 ms is good for meetings and many games. Over 100 ms is still fine for browsing. “Good” depends on distance to the server you actually use.
How we measure
Median HTTP round trip after discarding the first warmup sample. Consecutive differences become jitter.
Interactive vs bulk
Downloads care about megabits. Calls and games care about delay and jitter.
Do not chase zero
You cannot beat the distance to another continent. Pick closer application regions instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is this ICMP ping?
No. It is HTTP RTT to the SpeedTestLab node.
Why does a game show a different ping?
Different server, different protocol, different tick rate.
